- Prof. Qamar Uddin is a distinguished researcher and academician in the field of Unani Medicine, specializing in Mu‘ālajāt (Medicine). He is currently serving as Research Officer (Unani) Scientist Level-4, and Professor of Mu‘ālajāt (Medicine), and is also serving as Principal at the National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders (NRIUMSD), Hyderabad, a peripheral institute of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. He obtained his Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) degree in 1995 and completed his Postgraduate (M.D. Unani) degree in 1999 from Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi.
- He started his career as a Lecturer in August 2000 and was promoted to Reader & Head, PG Department of Mu‘ālajāt (Medicine), in August 2005 at Jamia Tibbiya Deoband, Uttar Pradesh. He joined the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) in July 2006 as Research Officer (Unani) at the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Bhadrak, Odisha, where he provided clinical services in the OPD and worked as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in various clinical research projects.
- Subsequently, he was transferred to CCRUM Headquarters, Janakpuri, New Delhi, in July 2013, where he contributed significantly to the planning, monitoring, and scientific & administrative coordination of the Council’s research programmes; drafting clinical research protocols, and editing technical reports, and monographs. Later, he was transferred to CRIUM (now upgraded as NRIUMSD), Hyderabad, in December 2016 and associated with the PG Department of Mu‘ālajāt (Medicine) as Professor & HOD. He has made significant contributions to the academic and research activities of the Institute and is serving as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in various Clinical Research Projects, IMR Projects, and Collaborative Research Projects at NRIUMSD, Hyderabad.
- His research interests include fundamental and clinical research in Unani Medicine, with a focus on developing scientifically validated Unani formulations. He has worked on various research projects on rheumatoid arthritis, lymphatic filariasis, haemorrhoids, vitiligo, mixed anxiety-depressive disorder, hepatitis B, and Mizāj Assessment Tool. With a total teaching and research experience of over 26 years, he has significantly contributed to the development of skilled professionals and researchers in Unani Medicine through the supervision of 55 M.D. (Unani Medicine) dissertations and one Ph.D. (Unani Medicine) thesis.
- As a Master Trainer & Programme Coordinator, he conducted five one-day End-Participant Training programmes under the Rashtriya Karmayogi Large-Scale Jan Seva Program – Phase 2, Stage 3, of the Capacity Building Commission, Government of India, for 140 officers and staff of NRIUMSD, Hyderabad, and RRIUMs at Bhadrak, Chennai, and Mumbai.
- He has published more than 50 research and review papers in reputed national and international journals, as well as more than 25 research abstracts. He is also the author of the book Research Methodology in the Unani Medical Sciences (A Guide for Students & Researchers), published by Notion Press Media Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. He has presented more than 50 papers at various national and international seminars and participated in more than 100 national and international seminars, conferences, workshops, and webinars. He has received the Best Published Research Paper Award (Clinical Research) from CCRUM, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
- As Technical Head of the Institute, his role is to coordinate the technical and research activities of the Institute, while as Principal, he is responsible for coordinating the technical and administrative activities of the PG Teaching Programme of the Institute.
- He has contributed as a reviewer for various reputed journals, including the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (JAIM) and Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine (OPEM). He has also served as a Member of the Editorial Board of the CCRUM Newsletter and is currently serving as Associate Editor of the Hippocratic Journal of Unani Medicine (HJUM), as well as a Member of the National Advisory Board of the Journal of Indian Medical Heritage (JIMH), published by Wolters Kluwer India Pvt. Ltd. (Medknow).
- He is serving as a Member of the Board of Studies (BoS), KNRUHS, Warangal, Telangana; Member Secretary of the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC); Chairman of the Departmental Research Committee (DRC), Mu‘ālajāt (Medicine); and Chairman of the Internal Research Audit Committee, NRIUMSD, Hyderabad. He has also served as Chairman of the Protocol Review Committee (PRC), CCRUM, New Delhi.

- Structural characterization, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and herb-drug interactions of major constituents of compound unani formulation for diabetes. [PI: Dr. Rajesh Sonti, NIPER-Hyderabad. Co-PI: Dr. Mohammad Zakir, NRIUMSD, Hyderabad. Grant Rs. 28,17,562 (Twenty-eight lakh seventeen thousand five hundred sixty-two)].
- A Single-Blind, Randomized, Parallel-Group Study to Compare Safety and Efficacy of an Unani Toothpaste with Herbo-mineral Toothpaste in Patients with Amrād Al-Asnān-o-Litha (Periodontal Diseases) (Co-PI).
- A Clinical validation of Unani formulation Qurs-e-Zarishk in cases of Sū’al-Qinya (Anemia) (Co-PI).
