The department's primary aim is to enhance educational and research standards among postgraduates, thereby producing qualified teachers and researchers in Unani Medicine. It integrates classical Unani Medicine literature with modern scientific research methodologies, offering a robust curriculum that includes both theoretical and practical teaching. Clinical training is provided in the Outpatient Departments (OPDs) and Inpatient Departments (IPDs) of NRIUMSD, Hyderabad. Under expert supervision, postgraduate students conduct clinical studies on various diseases.

 

Moalajat (Medicine)


The Department of Moalajat (Medicine) at NRIUMSD, Hyderabad was established in 2016 by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India with affiliation to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal, Telangana State. The department offers P.G. course, Mahire Tib [M.D. (Unani)] in Moalajat (Medicine) with intake capacity of nine students. The main objective of establishing the department was to uplift the educational and research standards among the Postgraduates as well as to pave the ground for the availability of the better qualified teachers and researchers in the field of Unani Medicine. NRIUMSD, Hyderabad is the first Research Institution of its kind in India and abroad which is also imparting Postgraduate Education in Unani Medicine. The department is an integrated complex, which carries out teaching and multi-disciplinary clinical research in Unani Medicine with the help and application of modern scientific research methodology. The Department runs a comprehensive postgraduate teaching programme, and students are trained through a structured academic schedule comprising theory classes, hands-on practical classes, bedside teaching, seminars, journal club, tutorials and dissertation projects. The training component includes clinical and research skills, development of protocols and guidelines, bedside clinical case presentations and discussions. Apart from theoretical and practical teaching, department is actively engaged in imparting clinical training to postgraduate students in various OPDs and IPDs of the Institute. Clinical studies on various diseases are being carried out by PG Students under the supervision of experts of Moalajat along with Pathologist and Biochemist. The teaching staff and PG students publish their research papers/ articles in journals and are also participated in national or international seminars/ conferences/ workshops as and when organized.

The thrust research areas of PG Department of Moalajat (Medicine) include Skin Diseases, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Neurological Diseases, Hepatic Diseases, Gastrointestinal Diseases, Acid- Peptic Diseases, Renal Diseases, and Sexual Diseases.

The Department is attached with well equipped Biochemistry, Pathology, Physiology, Clinical Pharmacodynamics, Radiology Laboratories of NRIUMSD, Hyderabad, which are serving the patients visiting the Moalajat OPD as well as catering services for Research Projects of the department, in addition to other OPDs, IPDs, and Research Projects of the Institute.

Ilmul Advia (Pharmacology)


The Postgraduate Department of Ilmul Advia (Pharmacology) at National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders (NRIUMSD), Hyderabad (Telangana) was established in 2016 by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India with affiliation to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal, Telangana State. The department is associated with Interdisciplinary Research Work on Unani drugs and formulations. The department is an integrated complex which carries out teaching and multi-disciplinary research activities on the system with the help and application of modern chemical, pharmaceutical and pharmacological sciences. This department offers the degree of Mahire Tib [M.D. (Unani)] in Ilmul Advia (Pharmacology) with intake capacity of nine students.



The main objective of establishing the department was to uplift the educational and research standards among the Postgraduates as well as to pave the ground for the availability of the better qualified teachers and researchers in the field of Unani Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy. NRIUMSD, Hyderabad is the first Research Institution of its kind in India and abroad which is also imparting Postgraduate Education in Unani Medicine.



The Department runs a comprehensive postgraduate teaching programme, and PG scholars are trained through a structured academic schedule comprising theory classes, hands-on practical classes, seminars, journal club, tutorials and dissertation projects. The training component includes research skills, development of protocols and guidelines. Apart from theoretical and practical teaching, department is actively engaged in imparting training to postgraduate students in Drug Standardisation research Laboratory, Pharmacology Laboratory and Pharmacy section of the Institute. Experimental studies, including preclinical research, drug standardization, quality control and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as Pharmacopoeial Standards of different dosage forms of Unani Drugs are being carried out by PG Students under the supervision of experts of Ilmul Advia along with Pharmacologist and Pharmacognosist. The teaching staff and PG students publish their research papers/ articles in journals and are also participated in national or international seminars/ conferences/ workshops as and when organized.



The thrust research areas of PG Department of Ilmul Advia (Pharmacology) include General Pharmacological Studies on Unani Drugs, including Analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic activity in rats, Anti-ulcer activity, Nephroprotective activity, Hepatoprotective activity, Antidiabetic activity, Hypolipidaemic and anti-obesity activity, Anti-hyperlipidaemic activity, Anxiolytic activity, Anticonvulsant activity, and Anti-psoriasis activity; Toxicity Studies of Unani Drugs; Authentication of the Raw Materials; Drug Standardisation; Quality Control of Unani Drugs; Shelf-life Studies of Unani Drugs; Development of SOPs of Unani Drugs and Developmental of Pharmacopoeial Standards of Unani Drugs.The Department is attached with well-equipped Pharmacology, Microbiology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Drug Standardization & Quality Control and Pharmacognosy Laboratories, and Animal House of the Institute, which are catering services for Research Projects of the department, in addition to other Research Projects of the Institute.



Since the establishment of the department, it has shown a lot of progress both academically and research fields.
